Our Philosophy
Teacher facilitated emergent curriculum honors the interest of the children while expanding their academic and social abilities.
This approach allows each child to add their own personal touch to each classroom.
Happy Day staff develops classroom curriculum that encourages children to take an active role in the learning process.
With approximately twenty-eight different theme boxes, children will encounter enriching daily experiences by participating in songs, books, flannel boards, art projects, large motor, small motor and sensory activities.
Together - teachers, children, families, the church and the community put their hearts into each classroom in order to make it fun and enjoyable - while meeting the needs of every child.
Music, Spanish, Sign Language and Yoga are all incorporated into the curriculum.
The importance of taking care of our environment through planting, taking care of animals and following the three R's (reduce, reuse and recycle) are all enforced in daily curriculum.
Happy Day Assessment Tool
In order to prepare our students for Kindergarten, twice a year teachers will us an assessment tool – the California Department of Education: Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRSP-R). "The DRDP-R is used to plan and conduct developmentally appropriate activities and evaluate children's progress.
The results are linked to curriculum planning and implementation to ensure attention is paid to skill enhancement in identified areas and to help scaffold children's learning in real time.
Teachers and administrators also use these Summary of Findings to support staff development activities and parent communications for on-going school improvement activities" (DRDP-R.com). This which can be found on the following website: www.cde.ca.gov/sp/cd/ci/drdpforms.asp.
Throughout the school year, teachers will gather your child's candid photos, artwork and observations to create a portfolio as a tool to use when assessing your child's progress throughout the school year. This documented proof will assist your child's teachers in determining how they should modify their curriculum in order to meet the needs of each child in the classroom.
All of the information regarding your child, including their portfolios, will be shared with you in our parent conferences which will take place twice a year.
