Make Happy Day your Choice for our transitional Pre-Kindergarten ProgramWe added this unique program in response to a need for children who do not meet the birth date cut-off for entrance into Kindergarten. It is also beneficial for those children who need a gentle gift of additional time to learn the skills necessary for success in Kindergarten.Age Appropriate EnvironmentIn this program, each child is challenged to meet their own individual abilities. The goal is to challenge and teach new skills without frustrating the child. Individualized learning is easily provided with low teacher to child ratios of 1 to 8 or less. The Explorers teacher is a fully credentialed teacher and is well versed in Early Childhood Education which allows her to be mindful of the preschool education your child has already completed.Caring Christian EducationHappy Day provides a safe, caring Christian environment where children are encouraged to build character and Christian values. The concept that "we love one another" is woven throughout our curriculum along with age appropriate activities involving the "Fruits of the Spirit."Significant Social EnvironmentMany opportunities are provided for hands-on experiences in language arts, creative arts and social studies. Children are taught to work cooperatively with others, to develop a positive self-image and learn effective conflict resolution through practice.Academic ExcellenceWe provide enriching curriculum, exploration and teaching which prepares children for Kindergarten. We are mindful of the preparation necessary for Kindergarten. We have experienced great success with this program and our ability to send children on "very ready" for their next academic journey. We are confident that children moving on from this program will succeed in any Kindergarten program they enroll in, private or public.Special ProgramsIn addition to our standard curriculum, we offer music education through a credentialed elementary music resource teacher who sings and provides experiences with musical instruments for the children. We have two scheduled musical performances which families are invited to attend. In addition, we offer many impromtu musical opportunities with our Pastor Dave Weidlich who plays guitar and sings with the children.Our Explorers teacher, Mrs. Brumbaugh also plays guitar and teaches the children basic Spanish words and songs. She also offers children a strong science curriculum component and a very special experience with a planetarium she has created. Cooking, woodworking and gardening projects are also an important part of our child-centered learning environment! We encourage children to be both convergent and divergent thinkers. Parent Education and CommunicationWe communicate on a regular basis with each student's family. We offer a weekly newsletter, conferences and our website, www.happydayschool.org so that communication remains strong. Throughout the year, we welcome parent participation in our classroom activities and encourage parents to attend our parenting classes. We are fortunate to have parents who offer their help with fundraising projects which directly benefit the school and its programs.I believe the Explorers program to be a unique asset to our school.
